Jim Lee just illustrated a new piece for his buddy, Joe Hahn of "Linkin Park," to benefit the "Riders for Health" charity. The custom-decorated motorcycle helmet will be on display at Joe's store, SURU in LA from July 12th from 12:00-8:00pm through August 16th as part of the "Celeritas" exhibition.
Tomorrow night, Jim will be attending the private reception held at the store where they'll be auctioning off his heavenly/devilish helmet, including others by James Jean, Alex Pardee, Barry McGee and more. And for the artheads out there, the art has been sealed with a spray fixative to keep it all together.
Since that's not open to the public, you can still catch Jim at the "100 Bullets: Last Shot" party thrown by Meltdown Comics earlier in the day, to help celebrate the release of the final 100 Bullets tpb, "Wilt," in-stores now. He'll be joining Brian Azzarello and Rev. Dave Johnson as they bid a fond farewell to Vertigo's modern day crime classic.

[Eddy]Here's some news for all the comic aficionados in the local area:
Jackie Estrada is teaching a course through UCSan Diego's Extension program, titled "Intro to the Graphic Novel." If you know any UCSD Students wanting to learn about the process, here it is in class form.
The course runs for six weeks, Thursday nights at UCSD Extension campus, April 16 to May 21, 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The fee is $165. Topics will include: exactly what is a graphic novel, the history and evolution of the graphic novel and the wide variety of books that are published in this medium (it's not a genre!)
[Eddy]Quick plug here for my friend's first comic! Ken Marcus is a long-time friend and the first issue of his Super Human Resources just hit comic stores!
Ken's a copywriter by day and enjoys a good comic or two by night, preferably written by Grant Morrison. He's been plugging his book everywhere online, doing interviews left and right, and has even written a short "Do's and Don'ts" on the perils of promoting an indy book. He even promotes the book on sites devoted to Human Resources. Talk about niche advertising.
The name of the comic basically tells you what you need to know and it's all lovingly-drawn by Justin Bleep! Available now in finer comic shops everywhere!

[Eddy]I love New York City and always look forward to going back as soon as I can. This time, we're hoping to visit the Statue of Liberty and find some good hamburger joints too. Traveling always turn into a gastronomical adventure, even just finding lunch around La Jolla.
Most of us from the blog will be heading out to New York this February 6-8 for the big New York Comic-Con and we hope to see everyone there! Artists include: Carlos D'Anda, Joel Gomez, Sandra Hope, JJ Kirby, Jim Lee, Michael Lopez, Oliver Nome, Eddie Nuñez, Livio Ramondelli, Alex Sinclair and Scott Williams.

One young Australian fan didn't have any bristol board or a sketchbook to call his own, so he asked Jim for a sketch on the one thing he did have - an iPod.
[Eddy]Our friends at IDW are having their first "Customer Appreciation Sale" this Saturday and everyone's invited! Not only will there be some great deals on comics, but Ben (Wormwood, 30 Days of Night) Templesmith, Chris (Clive Barker's The Great and Secret Show, Zombies vs. Robots) Ryall and Chris (Transformers: Reign of Starscream) Mowry will also be there signing for fans!

[Eddy]A "doofer" is a piece of folded cardboard used to hold juicy burgers and it's even patented by Burger Fuel. Once you folded it together, it formed this little cup, so you could carefully eat your food without getting your hands too messy. Hmm, I wonder if they make one to hold pizza?
Anyway, each day at the New Zealand show, a few Burger Fuel girls would come over and take our order for their tasty, gourmet burgers, Kumara (sweet potato) fries and sweet milkshakes. Plus, they'd bring over plenty of doofers to keep ourselves clean.
The girls were always very friendly and helpful with their time and on the last day, one of the girls wanted a sketch from Jim, so he knocked out this great Spider-Man sketch on one of the unfolded doofers. Bam, instant comic fan!
With food on the brain now, I hope everyone enjoys their weekend and has a great Thanksgiving!
[Eddy]I didn't have my video camera on me that day, but here are some work-in-progress pics of Jim sketching Joker. Obviously, one of the more popular and fun characters for him to draw because of his extreme personality.
The only color markers on-hand were ones you had to apply water onto, so Jim quickly laid some water on the page and sketched out the general shape of Joker's head in green.
After he let it dry a little, he went back over it with a black marker and added some red and white highlights for those finishing touches.
Including drying time, this sketch took about 10 minutes.
[Eddy]This was Livio's second time behind the table and he was doing sketch after sketch for the fans like an old pro.
