Best WildStorm Cover...Ever?

[Eddy]

I'm a big fan of DVD commentaries, so it was cool to read Jim's thoughts on the covers showcased in last week's "WildStorm Fine Arts Spotlight on Jim Lee." Inside, Scott Williams wrote up a nice introduction on being a fan of his art, plus Alex Sinclair gave a peek into his coloring process and even recolored a few pieces, including this cover above. He kept the original '90s coloring, but still managed to update it with his usual "Sinc-isms."

IIRC, the first time I saw this image was as an insert poster in an issue of "Inside Image" and later on, as the cover of the SNES WildC.A.T.s game. Anyone play that videogame? Oh, and it was also used on the cover of a Toy Fair giveaway comic too. They're all in their full-on "Image" poses and I always liked the extra tech on Zealot and the backwards cap on Grifter.

Also, in this month's DC comics, Art Director Extraordinaire, Mark Chiarello, asks "what's the best cover that has ever appeared on a DC comic?" and it made me wonder the same thing for WildStorm's comics. So what do you guys and girls out there think? Is WildC.A.T.s Vol. 1 #1 your favorite cover? Did Gen13 Vol. 1 #12 give you a warm, fuzzy feeling? Or do you consider WildC.A.Ts/X-Men: The Golden Age #1 a work of art?

Tell us which issue holds the title for Best WildStorm Cover and why you think so below. And that includes all of WildStorm's imprints too, like ABC, Cliffhanger and Homage titles.

Please vote only once and for one cover. Voting ends on January 5, 2007 at 12:00 A.M.

Happy Voting and Happy Holidays!

Jim lee, who is my all time favourite artist did some amazing pages for wildstorm; wildcats, devine right, deathblow, you name it.

What really gets me going though are the covers for the first three issues of wetworks. The foldout gate cover for #1 was amazing, but my favourite would have to be #3, with that team member with the glowing battons and body. Pretty sweet memories.

My favorite Deathblow (original regular series) cover by Jim was from issue #2 with the wicked color job by Ben Fernandez.

My favorite Wildstorm cover of Jim Lee's is: WildC.A.T.'s volume, issue #32, with Zealot holding the sword.

My favorite Image cover of Jim's is: Darker Image #1 with Deathblow, the Maxx and Bludwulf.

Non Jim favorites would be:
Whilce's connecting set-of-covers that Alex Garner inked.

Travis' New Horizons connecting set-of-covers with his, then new, illustration style.

The Brass covers by Richard Bennett.

Perhaps Danger Girl #6v, Joe Madureira...
Probably Tom Strong #14, Tom McWeeney...
Likely Wilcats V2 #2, Travis Charest.

Almost any wildstorm cover by either John Cassaday or Alex Ross. Particularly Cassaday's laters Planetary cover. Whilce Portacio's early Stormwatch: TA covers bare a mention

Wildcats v.2 #1. As much as I love Jim Lee's work, Travis Charest is one of the finest artists I've ever seen. Great cover.

I'm a huge fan of the single-figure pin-up style covers. I'm partial to the simplicity of Gen13 vol.1 #14 - Roxy in his civvies on a plain uncluttered white background is very striking.
But there's one cover that remains imprinted in my mind: Wildcats vol.1 #23 (I think that was the number) it was the issue that revealed Voodoo's outcast status on Khera... The cover had a sort of grotesque "The Thing" morphing deal going on at her head and arms, but dramatically growing out of Voodoo's normal sexy female silhouette torso... all of it over a blood red background (almost Mignola-like in its composition).
