Benjamin - Grifter/Midnighter #1

[Ryan]

I'm excited to be working on this book for WildStorm. When I had a chance to work on a Grifter title again, I jumped at the opportunity to flex my pencils on it. Midnighter is a badass character and someone told me he's finally drawn like he should be!

After a couple weeks of thinking about the cover, I decided to go with my ink wash technique. It turned out great on a Vagabond cover I did, so I decided to go with that again...Just on the cover, or else it would be really late. I'm doing the same style for each cover too, hoping to outdo the previous one as I go.

One day I'll do an entire book in this style. Maybe on the secret book (shhh!) Sean Ruffner and I are planning.

Hopefully you guys n gals will like it. Peace!

I've been waiting for you to announce what you were up to and I am floored to see you working on two of Wildstorm's finest. I can't wait to see the interior. Hopefully you can tease us with some penciled pages cause I can't get enough of looking at linework in the raw form.

And that cover is SICK!

This cover is ridiculously cool, I don't think I have read any of your books before but you have definitely sold me on this one.

This is an absolute gorgeous piece. I'd love to see the pencils for this and a description on how you laid the colors down. Beautiful work!

I'm with KGD, that cover is AWESOME. It brings me back to WildCATs vol 3 for some reason (cover wise).

Keep it up man, I'm definitely going to pick this book up just for the cover alone! Hopefully the interior will be just as amazing.

Kinda cool and very dinamic composition. Is there a little of digital coulour too or only inks? I like Grifter a lot, but I always thought that Midnighter was a violent version of Batman.

So, why not a Grifter/Batman? I'd love to see the Dark Knight in a war zone action with a guy that have... well... a different affection with guns!

Ciao!

Ryan, beautiful cover, probably the best I've seen from you. I'm just curious why it was decided to release this as mini-series as opposed a OGN? The reason ask is because I know your not a speedy penciler, and there's always a risk of not getting the individual issues out on time. I really wish Wildstorm would do OGNs because the majority of its readership tends to hold out for the trade.

Thanks for all the comments. The cover for issue 2 will be out soon. I'm trying to show more of me in the the covers.

I'm going with the ink wash monochromatic motif for all the covers. Keep the comments coming even if its negative.

Hey Ryan,
just checking to see how many issues this Grifter/Midnighter mini is going to be. I understand that you want to get into movie medium, why? Is drawing comics not rewarding enough in the sense of accomplishment and money? Can you actually make a good living drawing comics? Well anyways, just wanted to let you know that the preview for the new book looks really good so far. Best comic work yet, that I've seen, from you. Keep it fluid.
