Comic-Con's Coming!

[Oliver]

Hey ya'lls, soooo, it's almost Comic-Con time again! Can't wait for all the hysteria and sensory overload! Also, looking forward to meeting new peeps and all you loyal and supportive fans;)

As the clock is ticking, us artists here at WildStorm are scrambling to get ready, usually right down to the wire. I just decided to do another brand new piece for this year's show too.

I picked on one of my faves, Death, a regular character that I love to draw, which has been spotlighted here on this blog on more than five or six occasions. I've included the quick pencils and the final image, minus text. Hope you like and see ya in a few weeks!

Happy Tofurkey Day!

Hey ya'lls, hope all is well. I'm sure you've been building up an appetite for a new posting by me since it's been a little while....so here's a double dose!

I've been really playing around/practicing my brush inking techniques these past few weeks. I primarily use pens and sometimes the quill and only really used the brush to fill in blacks..(such a waste of a fine tool!), mainly cause the brush intimidated me and I didn't think I had a steady enough hand. I'm officially hooked and love, love the rawness and all the line variations you can get.

After being at WildStorm for a couple of years, I've been exposed to and have falling for the work of such artists as John Paul Leon and Tommy Lee Edwards, artists whose styles are way different than mine but styles that I'm studying and trying to incorporate into my work because I admire the gestures, the line work, and the freedom of it all, not to mention being inspired by some of the best inkers in the industry that I work with under the same roof!

I drew two of my fave characters...which should be no suprise to anyone who frequents this blog and finished them using only a #2 Raphael brush (the brush of choice amongst my fellow WildStormers).

'Death' I took more time to be as clean and precise as I could and doing the background in a simple ink-wash. 'Joker' was more of an exercise in 'rawness' and line weights.

I'm still learning and honing my craft but I am very pleased with the outcome of the two pieces. Anyhoo, hope you like and untill next time!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yes, another Death...

[Oliver]

Hey ya'lls, how's it goin? I'm just gonna keep this short and sweet. Here's another 'Death' I did for fun, simple and graphic is what I've been leaning towards in a lot of my pieces in the past months for two main reasons:

1. cause I like the way it looks, especially in a nice frame and...

2. cause I don't have a lot of spare time to just draw for fun and it helps speed things up.

Hope you like ;)

Livio vs. Monday

[Livio]

This was a recent pencil drawing commission. Always fun to wreck some sentinels!

Another recent commission, where I was asked to do an unusual pairing of Optimus Prime and the DC Comics character Death. It began as a pencil drawing, but I was asked to do a full color painted version as well so here it is!

Initially I had Prime's gun blasting out a traditional orange colored blast but it didn't seem to work with Death's icy nature, so I changed it to blue and I think it suits her far better.

another...Death...

[Oliver]

Hey ya'lls, here is another 'Death' piece that I just finished for fun. It's a little more traditional of an interpretation as compared to the last one that I did. I've been just working on the piece here and there for the last couple of months and just finished.

I decided not to render her flesh in grey tones as I usually do with the characters in my pieces because I really wanted her to 'pop' from the statue behind her, which I did in all 'hatching' to achieve the grey tones.

I've already got another 'Death' in the works and will post as soon as I'm done. Enjoy!

'DEATH' is the road to awe...

[Oliver]

Hello everyone! Happy New Year's! Hope everyone's holidays and New Year's celebrations went well. Feels good to be back in the studio working after the long vacation.

Anyhoo, I kept myself busy doing pieces including this 'Death' remix that I did. As I've said in a previous post, she is one of my fave characters and to work on a Death title would be a dream project. I just reimagined her design and 'stippled' in the background, which is an art technique of doing everything in dots...which is very time consuming and takes alot of patience but is very rewarding in the end.

Hope you like ;)

Kirby - New Zealand

[Eddy]

Hope everyone had a great weekend with Turkey day and all the shopping on Black Friday or as I like to call it, HD Friday!

Above, are more sketches from the recent New Zealand show where JJ was really in his groove doing sketch after sketch for fans! My favorite's the Harley Quinn sketch, but I also like how a fan asked for a self-portrait of JJ, just because they liked meeting him!

Back on the food tip, JJ introduced me to all of the different meat pies in New Zealand too, which we ate every day we were there. Mmm, meat pies...

Nuñez - New Zealand

[Eddy]

After a short stop in LA, we flew 12 hours overnight to Auckland, New Zealand and went right to the hotel for a quick shower and change of clothes before heading over to the convention Saturday morning. When we got there, all of the convention guests were introduced on the main stage and welcomed by a traditional Maori dance, including a hongi, which is their custom of touching noses.

Afterwards, it was off to the top floor of the convention for our first signing of the day. I think we were all on auto pilot by then, but it was still fun being in another country and meeting new fans.

For most of us, this was our first overseas convention and, like Livio, this was only the second convention for Eddie Nuñez.

This was Livio's second time behind the table and he was doing sketch after sketch for the fans like an old pro.

Death Becomes Her...

[Oliver]

Hello everyone, hope all is well in these crazy times. Here is a piece I did of Death, one of my favorite DC characters...(and a dream project of mine to do a mini series...hopefully someday. :)

I played around a little with her hair for composition and did this piece on an over-sized, heavy duty art board. It's done in ink wash and I just colored in her eyes with a prisma color pencil. It was done one night just for fun, I had the board laying around and just wanted to do a simple, uncomplicated piece.

Hope you like. :)
