Serenity

[Lopez]

Howdy folks, well, here is a commission I did for Lane Terasaki. They are characters from "Serenity." I never watched the show, but after doing the sketch, I'll have to check it out.

The piece was all done with an ebony pencil. It took a while to do too, working off and on. Realistic stuff is more time consuming for me, but it's always rewarding to see the piece all finished.

Hulkling striking a pose

[Nome]

Here is a recent piece I did of "Hulkling" from The Young Avengers. It was an original commission and I actually had fun doing it.

step 1: the sketch
step 2: finished piece with inks
step 3: with gray skin tones added

Honestly, drawing big, muscular, bulky guys aren't my favorite thing, (naturally my asthetic leans more towards...well, long and lean figures) but I was asked to make the piece sexy and just be me with it.

I'm also a huge fan of Alan Heinberg (Sex and the City is my fave show of all time) and I really enjoyed and appreciated the fact that Alan gave us a young gay couple up front and center along with the rest of the team and didn't treat them as secondary/background characters reduced to lame jokes and cliched stereotypes.

Hope you like :)

Raise the Flag

(Carlos)

waddup y'alls... man o man, can't believe it's already been two months (more or less) since Comic-Con!!! damn time, all going fast and crap!!! ...anyway, this little ditty here is a piece I did for Mr 'Hawaiian Dave'. He asked me if I would like doing a WWII Cap and I was like "the Cap with more gear?!?!? hell yeah!!!"

This was the first drawing a did at the Con (which is usually the hardest, 'cause the engine's not reved up yet) but overall, I was pretty happy with it. The only thing I wish I could go back and retouch is the face... I feel like I overworked it too much...

That's one of the bad things about doing these pieces on half-tone paper. Once you commit to your highlights, you can't really go back without making a total mess of the thing!

...oh well c'est la vie and all that! :)

Fire

[Kirbzilla]

What up peeps! Kurb lover here with post #2 of my triptych. The first was air playing music on his wind horn. This one is fire dancing for the soul.

I used real leaves for this piece and had them transition thru the whole picture for effect.

I hope y'all enjoy what I blessed ya' with. Till next time this is Kirby saying don't jump on the bed with toothbrushs in your mouth :)

Batman's Secret Stash!

[Eddy]

Kevin Smith's Westwood Secret Stash store is coming to a close soon, so you've only got a couple weeks left to pose next to Jim's awesome door there. And here are a couple Quicktime clips of him drawing it too, for anyone who missed it before. I can't believe that was almost three years ago!

Oh, and above is an Absolute Hush that's been signed by the writer, penciler and inker with a rare sketch by Jim Lee and an even harder-to-get sketch by Scott Williams done very recently!

Air

[Kirbzilla]

What up folks? Master Krb here droppin' some raw flavors on y'all.

Here is the first installment of a triptych I did back in the dayz. The art and skill is all in there, so if anybody wants to hate, "holla atchboy".

But for the people who know me, know I always say,"there's somethin' for everybody".

Finger Paintings Part: 3

[Nome]

Hey everyone, here is another painting I did shortly after 9/11/01, entitled "Overture". It is obviously a calmer piece compared to the last piece I posted.

I'm not the type of person that likes to go on and on about my pieces and the meanings, etc. etc., but let me just say that I was in a state of sedation while doing this piece.

Baltimore Comic-Con!

[Eddy]

The Baltimore Comic-Con always has a great guest list and this year, Jim will be there for Sunday only!

He doesn't do too many East Coast shows, so this'll be your perfect chance to get your favorite comic signed too. And since he's only there for one day, I wouldn't expect him to be sketching at the show, but you can still catch his panel for all the latest and greatest:

3:00-3:50 Jim Lee Spotlight Panel
Critically acclaimed creator and fan-favorite Jim Lee is front and center in this special glimpse into the life of one of the comic industry's greatest artists. From working on All Star Batman & Robin the Boy Wonder, to being the Editorial Director of WildStorm, Jim Lee is here to answer your questions! Moderated by Bob Wayne, VP - Sales, this Q&A session promises to entertain!

UPDATE: Check out Newsarama for a full review of the panel.
