Over the weekend, I ran into Ben Templesmith at IDW and he's been itching to challenge our Carlos D'Anda in the next one-hour sketch challenge! Ben's recently moved to the San Diego area from the land down under, where I'm told their toilets are so superior to American ones they don't even need plungers! And thanks to our recent trip there, I can definitely believe it! But enough plumbing talk, here's a little more background on this week's challenger:
"Ben Templesmith is a comic book artist/grumpy old man hailing from Perth, Australia. He's done books such as 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, FELL, WORMWOOD: GENTLEMAN CORPSE, WELCOME TO HOXFORD and the upcoming PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES. He does not eat babies. Much. Currently artist in residence for IDW Publishing."
He must be doing something right, since his site's blocked at our office "because it may contain content inappropriate for the workplace." Fortunately, his blog works just fine here.
Just to recap how these Iron Gelatomettista challenges go, everyone's welcome to post their choice for one character they'd like to see drawn in an hour by these two artists and afterwards you get to vote on the winning piece! Normally, I like to stay out of the choice of characters, but this time I'll get the ball rolling with Dr. Doom!
UPDATE @ 12/12/08, 5:05pm: Sorry to disappoint all the Warren Ellis fans out there, but FRANKENSTEIN gets the nod this time, so check back in an hour or so for the final results!

"...I'll get the ball rolling with Dr. Doom!"
Templesmith's got an unfair advantage, what with drawing all those sinister presidents already.
Captain Mar-Vell!
Ben Templesmith!! :D
My choice::
Lex Luthor (armored or business suit)
Peace.
The Joker, please.
Warren Ellis
You people are thinking small.
Jesus arm-wrestling Cthulhu.
Zaphod Beeblebrox
I second Warren Ellis, but only if you depict him as Internet Jesus.
MY rec. for a character?
Morbius the Living Vampire
(mainly because I want to see Ben's take on the character!)
Warren Ellis as Dr. Doom!
I vote for The Maxx!
Ronnie James Dio!
William Shatner.
I'd say: Wonderwoman
Poison Ivy
Apocalypse
Alfred E Neuman
Elmo and Big Bird
Midnighter
Fantastic suggestion: The Maxx!
Oh, Ben could rock a Poison Ivy or Maxx piece. Either one of those would be great!
War Machine
Jim Lee
Uh... it's Welcome to *Hoxford*...

I'd love to see them bust out some crazy occult Dr. Strange.
Hellboy...
Works for both of their styles...
Warren Ellis as internet Jesus has my vote.
Mine too. Tally another one for Warren Ellis.
Warren Ellis is a fantastic idea, largely because it will be terribly amusing when he finds out about it.
Warren's already said a firm NO, so sorry guys, I think he's out! ( Besides I already drew him once )
I don't know why this popped into my head, but...
Do the Unknown Soldier.
I'm with transiit- Jesus arm-wrestling Cthulhu would be brilliant! hahaa!
How about Arcane from Swamp Thing
Frankenstein!
Because you know Templesmith will nail the atmospherics and Carlos will nail the monster/tech side of it!
I'll toss my vote in even though Warren Ellis seems to be winning in a landslide.
Frankenstein.
Bah someone beat me to suggesting Frankenstein! Get out of my mind!
Yet another vote for Frankenstein here ~Roo
ok...it seems Frankenstein may win..How about Frankenstein arm-wrestling Cthulhu?
VENOM!!!!!!
Frankenstein portrayed by Warren Ellis.
I agree venom because of the style differences between the two id like to see a nice simple/complex character done
I think Venom fits both styles perfectly
How about something a little bit more ambiguous? someone who is not necessarily dark... but could be warped either way. someone who loves the dark. someone who stands for the surreal and the strange.
Rodman Edward "Rod" Serling.
RACE BANNON!!!
Robert Paulson from Fight Club (Edward Norton)
