Hey what's up everyone! I hope everyone had a good Memorial three-day weekend, I know i did.
I went to go see Iron Man a couple of weeks ago and watching all that tech in action made me want to do a piece on him. I wanted to capture an inspirational shot from the movie, so I decided to do him taking on Iron Monger.
I've never really attempted this character and I have to say I had a lot of fun doing this piece, so with that said hope you like:)
I'd been drawing a lot of I guess serious and pretty time consuming stuff lately...I wanted to cut loose and just do something fun. It's weird because I'd also been drawing a lot of girls lately so I was rebeling against that I think to some degree as well....
so you get....Maleficent...meets the Joker. (It really wasn't supposed to be the Joker) but I'd been showing some 'works in progress' scans last night and I had a few people say "hey that's the Joker"
works for me...it's just the same scary guy face I always draw.
:)
sort of a 'Friday Night Monster sketch' (for you old school bloggers here)...and well...it's only Wednesday.
Hello everyone, here is another commission I just finished. Emma Frost is the character this time around. I wanted to do another illo similar to the Scarlet Witch I posted awhile back.
I really dig those ebony pencils, you get the full range of gray tones with just the one pencil. I was originally going to do white on white and indicate everything with core shadows, but thought the giant "X" could be lit up like a 70's Saturday Night Fever thing, then I would be able to light everything with the "X".
Hey yall's, hows it goin? Here is a double page commission I finished last month of Wonder Woman and old school Donna Troy vs. Circe. It was my biggest piece to date and I had a lot of fun drawing these three strong, sexy characters battling it out.
Hey all, just wanted to remind everyone to checkout Lost Boys: Reign of Frogs #1 which hit stores tomorrow. Fans of the cult classic film won't be disappointed, Hans Rodionoff's scripts have the spirit, edginess, and dark humor of the hit movie...and some.
Who's the fancy monkey, you ask? I love to draw monkeys around the offices here at Wildstorm...mostly for birthdays and post-it note favors..but this guy was drawn for a friend of studiomate Livio Ramondelli...ahh fancy monkies...anyway, be sure to check me out at myspace...joelgomezartist.
I know I'm always drawing Spidey and good ol' Venom, but I just can't help it, they're just so damn fun to draw because of their big shapes!!!
I think the only pain when it comes to drawing these characters is having to do all the webbing on Spidey's costume, other than that I can't really complain on Venom because you really have no limits when it comes to him.... So with all that said, hope you like! :)
It's not everyday you get to meet Jim Lee. Or Whilce Portacio. Or Marc Silvestri. Now, just add Todd McFarlane, Erik Larsen, Jim Valentino and Rob Liefeld to the mix and you've got a great day. Throw in some free comics and ninety-degree plus weather and you've got the all seven of the Image founders signing at Atomic Comics for Free Comic Book Day last Saturday!
As one of my friends put it, "it's like being a part of comics history!" And for hundreds of fans baking in the hot Arizona sun, that's exactly what it was at they all waited several hours to meet the Image Seven. Having lived in Arizona, Marat Mychaels was also there and he told me was the first Image rookie, making him number eight.
The buzz in the room was great too, as everyone reminisced about the good old days and even the days yet to come. The level of anticipation and excitement in the air was very real and you could feel it from both fans and creators alike.
So here’s a painting of everyone’s favorite bounty hunter, Boba Fett. I was just going for a basic moody shot here. I was trying to stick to a semi-limited palette and keep the colors pretty “earthy”.
I’ve always loved the design for Boba Fett’s helmet-there’s just something so unsympathetic about that faceplate, and it really captures what the character is all about.
Another great thing about painting this character is that you can play around with his totally beat-to-crap armor. I think it’s really easy to get carried away with adding way more nicks and dents than necessary but I honestly tried to restrain myself here. You be the judge. Hope you enjoy!
Yo check out my Harley Quinn. It was a commission from Wizard World LA and it came out kind of sexy, if I do say so myself. I also added the blue in the computer to touch it up a bit.
Hope you enjoy the piece because I enjoyed doing it and don't forget to pick up New Dynamix #3 tomorrow.
Here is another piece I did for pick up at the New York Comic-con. This was my first crack at Dr. Strange and I had a lot of fun drawing him. He's one of those characters that you can just go crazy with as far as environments and situations go.
Hey y'all , this is another commission I recently did of The Defenders' Valkyrie in her classic costume. This was one of those drawings that you just get into and kinda make it up as you go. When doing these sketches there are so many things you can do, I have a bad habit of over thinking the layout and composition but sometimes things work out okay if you just flow.
