Thought to Pop!
The blog's been a little quiet lately, but that's only because we've all been super busy getting ready for our first gallery show at the Athenaeum, here in La Jolla. The show's up from June 21 - July 26 and to help add a personal touch to the event, the guys from the studio are even drawing on the walls themselves!
Keep checking back for more pics of the event and be sure to stop by next Friday, June 27 from 6:30 - 8:30pm for the Opening Reception!
And once it ends, who knows what'll happen to these walls?

Blast from the past!
Hey there everyone, a long time ago I penciled this Wildcats pin-up for the Wildstorm sourcebook and was lucky enough to have Alex Garner ink this thing. Needless to say, Alex knocked it out of the park. I realize the piece is old, but I still think it holds up pretty well today so I thought I would share this one with you again.
Check out those INKS!

Heart of Ice
It took the Batman Animated series to really get me to appreciate Mr. Freeze, and I think it was a stroke of Bruce Timm/Paul Dini fueled genius to add the tragic story of a lost wife to this villain’s motivation. I always liked the cartoon’s visual of a literal ice man holding a snow globe that reminded him of his lost love. And as we all know, this moving backstory was later portrayed/destroyed horribly in a live action version starring our current governor here in sunny California!
This image actually started as a small, looser acrylic painting I did on canvas board a while back. But I recently found that board, scanned it in and digitally painted over the entire thing. You’ve gotta love Painter IX’s glow effect, which makes painting shiny glass and ice much easier than doing it with traditional paint.
And thanks to Mike Lopez, who posed as a photo reference for Freeze’s facial shadows here. Though if you’ve met Mike in person, you know he’s far more handsome than the craggly, grandpa-ish face I put on the good doctor here. Mike also has hair.
Until next time!

a few for e bay
I added up 7 e bay auctions last night...and I thought some people here might be interested. It's all either Wildstorm or DC comics related and they are all great auctions for people on a budget or new to collecting art. When I first started collecting comic art one I was blown away at just the idea...that you could own pages from your favorite comics. I was so naive I didn't even know that artists sometimes sold their work...And two I was on a tight budget. I would normally only have $40-$80 to spend and I remember buying that first $80 page and thinking..wow this is a lot of money. All of these auctions start at between $29 and $60...so it's really affordable stuff. Collecting art is a very fun hobby and I still have a small collection. Here's the booty available:
There's 2 Whilce Portacio Wetworks pages, a great page from Skyerunner by Ale Garza and myself, a few licensing things I did a few years back, and two very cool Dustin Nguyen pages. One from The Authority and one from Wild Cats 3.0
I added a link check em out... All the auctions end this Thursday~!
thanks~!

Summer Fun!
Hello everyone, June is here, yeah! Hope the summer is going great for y'all so far. I just saw "Sex and the City," my most anticipated film of the year, so everything else this summer is all down hill from here, except Comic-Con, of course. :)
Anyhoo, in between everything else I'm working on, I did this "Resident Evil" piece last weekend for fun. My roommate was playing the games all weekend and I sat and watched and was inspired to draw some creepy creatures and sexy people with guns. It was fun and a nice change of pace from all the superhero stuff I've been doing.
Hope u like. :)
