Thwip!

[Lopez]

Hello again, here is another commission I did, Mary Jane.

I had seen her in books before, but it wasn't until an oversized Spider-Man comic, reprinting classic stories, that I first noticed her. This one had the first appearance of Mary Jane by John Romita Sr. and WOW!!

It was then that I realized that everyone had drawing her after John Romita Sr... was drawing her WRONG!!

Maybe I am just too partial to classic comics and the original artist's take on them. Anyway, Romita Sr. has always inspired me, and I think this commission reflects that inspiration.

Hope you like it, see ya at Wondercon.

Great piece and a great presentation of Mary Jane!

It's just a shame that MJ's influence in Spider Man was diminished with "One More Day" though *sigh*

We will have to rely on others like you to give us the MJ fix we need =)

Hi Michael, I must admit I'm fan of your style and I really enjoyed this one of Mary Jane and it's very funny and original to see her hand in the style of peter when he launches his webbing stuff. And you really pay tribute to John Romita, it's very close to the way she looked on that time, and it really stands out well, she is really gorgeous, but as some others said here it's too bad they took her out of Spidey's life now, not really the best idea ...

Can't see you either at wondercon (Paris , France here) but I can imagine how nice it must be we don't have so much conventions over here , too bad...

Romita's MJ is the best one ever drawn!

Btw, your rendition is pretty well too

I'm really loving this commission. I love the different shades of tan along with the white highlights. MJ really pops out at you.

Awesome work.

hey Michael,
how are you man? Nice to see you posting some art again:) I love this piece. And yup all the old school guys like John Buscema, Jack Kirby and John Romita Sr. have done the the greatest versions of most of the Characters...I guess its because they either were the ones that created them or because they shaped them when they (the characters) were new:)
all the best wishes from cold old Germany:)

I used to post here a lot back in the day and haven't in a while. I just wanted to say Mr. Lopez, I've fallen in love with your art. It's fantastic. I'll be visiting the Gelatometti Booth at Wondercon and hope to at the very least get a sketch or even a comission. See ya guys there!

Man, that is the best and truest MJ I've seen in a long time. I was flipping down the page to go look at the Voodoo auction pieces again and my brain went "!" and forced me to scroll back up in order to verify that that was, yeah, not just MJ, but MJ as she *oughta* be.

And I don't even *like* her. Well done. :)
